Day 20

Somebody Stank! Is it You?

By Min. DJ

Don’t you just hate it when you don’t have time to brush your teeth in the morning, and you forget that your breath stinks until somebody busts you out!? Ummm, that’s never happened to you…? Oh. Well, what about when you wake up so late that you don’t have time to take a shower and put on deodorant so you just try to cover up the stink with some perfume or cologne – only to realize that it only magnifies the smell!? Uhhh…you’ve never done that either, huh? Oops! Ok, so maybe you’ve never been so foul with your body…but what about your spirit?

"So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the message God has planted in your hearts, for it is strong enough to save your souls. 22And remember, it is a message to obey, not just to listen to. If you don't obey, you are only fooling yourself. 23For if you just listen and don't obey, it is like looking at your face in a mirror but doing nothing to improve your appearance. 24You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you keep looking steadily into God's perfect law--the law that sets you free--and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it." (New Living Translation)

James 1:21

Don’t you just hate it when you go to church and the preacher starts reading your mail!? He starts talking about your filthy mouth, or your nasty attitude, or your dirty mind. You feel bad for the moment, but as soon as you leave the sanctuary you forget to wash your mouth, clean up your attitude, and renew your mind?! Sound more familiar? I thought it might. It’s interesting because you would probably never let yourself be seen in public dirty, ugly, and smelling like a port-a-potty. Why? Because you KNOW people would talk about you like a dog! Because people wouldn’t want to be around you. Because people would reject you. People, people, people…we do all this to not offend people. But what about God? Is He offended by your smell?

"But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not consider how handsome or tall he is. I have rejected him. I do not look at the things people look at. Man looks at how someone appears on the outside. But I look at what is in the heart.'" (New International Reader's Version).

1 Samuel 16:7

Don’t just read the Daily Devo. Be a doer of the Word, and God will bless you beyond your wildest dreams!
