Day 18

Are You Sanctified?

By Min. DJ

"And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."

John 17:13-17

The word “sanctify” means to set apart or separate. What separates the Christian from the world? The answer is – Truth. Sometimes people want to define their own truth. But truth is not some flexible concept that can be bent and stretched to fit the latest trend. Truth isn’t like play dough, it’s like iron. It is what it is. Jesus must’ve known that people would come along and try to create an elastic definition of truth, so He went ahead and defined it for us: “Thy Word is truth”. God’s Word is truth. Period. This is what sanctifies the Christian from the world. There are certain things that we just don’t do. Why not? Because God’s Word says that it’s wrong. It doesn’t matter how we feel about it. Our feelings are not truth - God’s word is.

So then, there should be an obvious difference between you and your unsaved acquaintances. There should be something that sets you apart from “the crowd”. A stranger should be able to observe you interacting with other teenagers and automatically know that you’re different.

There should be a difference in how you talk about the opposite sex. There should be a difference in how you treat your little brother. In fact, there should be a difference in how you look, too. Jesus said that we are not of the world, and we shouldn’t be trying our best to blend in either. Why do you really want that tattoo? What’s at the heart of your desire for that body piercing? Why exactly do you feel like you have to sag your pants to be comfortable?

Jesus didn’t try to fit in and He definitely didn’t tell us to. Romans 12:2 doesn’t say to be conformed to the world, it says to be transformed into something out of this world. It really it is about time that YOU joined the revolution. God called us all to be leaders, trendsetters, world changers, and revolutionaries! It’s time to REVOLT and be sanctified for the high calling of Christ!
