Day 10

Freedom from Slavery
John 8:32

By Min. DJ

"Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? 34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin."

John 8:31

Bondage is slavery. But no one in our generation was alive during the period of slavery in America, so it may be hard for us to relate to bondage as slavery. However, there is a form of bondage that we’re more familiar with: Jail…Prison…Behind Bars…Locked Up.

Whoever commits sin is a prisoner, locked up behind the bars of sin. Have you ever committed a sin? Whoa. When a person goes away to prison, they not only lose their freedom, they lose their rights. They are not free to do what they want. They are forced to do whatever the warden tells them to do. You were born in sin, and immediately Satan sentenced you to life in prison and ultimately death row. Which means you may want to do right, but if you’re still a prisoner in the jailhouse of lust and sin, you won’t be able to. You can desire t change your life, but you’ll only continue to do the same old thing for as long as you’re still locked up in bondage. Wow. Pretty deep huh?

Thank God, there is a way out. Ultimately, Jesus has already served our time and bailed us out with His own blood. When we receive Him as our Lord and Savior, we receive our walking papers and we are set free. But even though you have been declared free, you still have to leave the prison and the prison-life in order to enjoy your freedom. Jesus said that if we continue in His Word that we would know the truth and the truth would make us free. Notice the word MAKE. If you will continue in the Word of God, reading it and doing it, Jesus said that the truth won’t let you remain a prisoner. The truth will make you free. Keep the Word of God in front of your eyes, in your ears, and in your mouth all the time. If you continue in His Word, you’ll get revelation of the truth. And the truth will make you free.
