Day 1

Are You Drunk?

By Min. DJ

1 Peter 5:8

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:"

The scripture says to be sober. If you don’t know what it means to be sober, just think about what it means to be drunk. To be sober means to NOT be drunk. When a person is drunk they move slower, they think slower and they act “slow”. Being drunk is like being stupid so it’s no wonder people do some pretty dumb things when they’re drunk - Things like picking a fight with someone twice their size, or running their car into a tree, or mooning the police!

When you’re not sober, spiritually, you end up doing some pretty foolish things too - Like cussing out a teacher, or smoking cigarettes, or skipping class. Anyone in their right mind can tell that these things are dangerous and stupid. But that’s just it – when you’re not sober you’re not in your right mind!

The verse is telling us to be sober because there’s a mass murderer on the loose and he’s looking for someone to make his next victim. God loves you and he’s speaking to you, even now, to protect you from getting hurt.

Sober up! Wake up!
Your enemy’s trying to catch you slipping!

One of the things I do to make sure I stay sober, spiritually, is pray every single day. It’s so easy to forget how crazy the world is without God’s protection! Morning prayer, before you start your day, is like a daily reality check to remind you of God’s presence and how much you need Him to be with you.

Another thing I do is meditate on the Word of God. I like to make sure I spend time every day looking at and thinking about something God said to me in the Bible. A person that does this faithfully will become more and more like Jesus everyday.

And you know what else? In order to stay sober, I can’t get drunk with the world’s poison. The wrong kind of music is poisonous. The influence of ungodly friendships is poisonous. Just like liquor or a drug they can make you drunk, spiritually, and take you out of your right mind.

Remember these things today and stay sober!
